Yes, Medjet transports for COVID-19 hospitalizations, along with all the other illnesses and accidents that can land you in a hospital while traveling. Transport benefits are both domestic and international.

Medjet is a membership program, not a health insurance plan or travel insurance plan. If a Medjet member is hospitalized over 150 miles from home, Medjet will arrange medical transfer to the hospital of their choice within their home country, regardless of medical necessity. There are no pre-existing condition exclusions (under age 75), health questions, deductibles or claim forms. There are no monetary limits to the program's transport benefits. Medjet covers the entire cost of the transport, bedside to bedside.

Medjet members are transferred regardless of medical necessity. This means that as long as the member is hospitalized as an inpatient, even if it is not deemed a medical emergency, they can choose to be transferred to another hospital in their home country, even if the facility they are in is considered adequate. This is in direct contrast to many health and travel medical evacuation insurance plans, air ambulance providers and platinum card benefits. Many of those require the transfer to be emergent and medically required — otherwise nothing is covered and the patient can expect to pay an enormous out-of-pocket expense just to get home. But with Medjet — the choice is yours.

Our medical transportation services are arranged by an expert team of travel and medical professionals who have one goal in mind — to get our members home. What’s more, there are no additional costs to worry about and no limits on air-medical transport expenses.

If you call Medjet, our medical department will consult with your local attending physician to determine your stability for transfer. If you meet the criteria for transport and are medically stable, the decision is yours.

The vast majority of traditional health providers do not provide coverage for air-medical transport services. If there is some coverage of this type, it will likely contain restrictions and significant out-of-pocket costs. Check with your provider for specific details.

As long as your membership is up to date and you meet the criteria for transport, Medjet will arrange air-medical transfer from bedside to bedside at no out-of-pocket cost to you. All you pay is your initial membership fee.

Members under the age of 75 are allowed two transports per membership year. In the case of a common accident involving multiple enrolled family members, each and every member of the enrolled family will receive one transport.

We make all efforts to get you moved home as quickly as possible, but there are several factors that affect the timing of your transport: whether or not you are stable enough for transport, the pre-admission process at the receiving hospital, where you are located and that country’s protocols for processing the paperwork to clear a transport aircraft and crew to retrieve you, and more. We are experts at what we do, so rest assured we move through the process as quickly as we can.

A family plan membership includes a primary member, a domestic partner or spouse, and up to five dependent children up to age 19 (or up to age 23 for full-time students).

Yes. Some Medjet authorized affiliate aircraft can transport up to two critical patients at once, and can dispatch multiple aircraft at one time. Through our affiliate network, we can also transport several non-acute patients at once on a common aircraft.

No, Medjet is an authorized Indirect Air Carrier (IAC) utilizing the services of licensed Part 135 air carriers to meet your air ambulance transportation needs. Medjet does not own, lease or operate any aircraft, and has no affiliation with any direct air carrier. As an IAC, Medjet contracts for the provision of air transportation services in its own name and coordinates the provision of medical services for your flight. All flights are operated by licensed direct air carriers.

Medjet requires all authorized medical aircraft to be twin engine with a minimum of two pilots specially trained and certified for the specific aircraft they are flying. Medical teams must be specially trained in the care of critically ill or injured patients at altitude, with experience in both short and long-range air medical transport missions. All authorized affiliates must comply annually with Medjet standards with regard to liability insurance limits, as well as pilot and medical crew training.

Aircraft operated by our affiliates include state of the art medical equipment and are able to operate as flying intensive care units. All aircraft have the capability of accommodating one critical patient and one family member along with a medical team.

Dialing the U.S. from abroad is different than calling long distance within the U.S. or Canada. Each country you visit will have an "international prefix" that you must dial prior to entering the U.S. number you are trying to reach. These international prefixes are sometimes called "exit codes"

For example: If you are in France (or most of Europe/ Africa/ Asia/ South America / Mexico / NZ), the "exit code" would be "00", so you would need to dial 00-1-205-595-6626.

If you are dialing from a cell phone, you should be able to bypass the need to enter an international prefix by simply adding the “+” sign (press and hold the “0+” button) prior to dialing “1”, then the area code / phone number you wish to call. If you have the Medjet app on your phone, you can click on the phone numbers in the app to reach us ~ they are already international dialing capable.

More about dialing Medjet from abroad can be found on our CONTACTS page or at Medjet.com/how-to-call-medjet-from-abroad.
